TEAM NEWS
Argentinos Juniors will have Federico Gallego and Andres Franzoia available again – both were suspended for the 2-0 defeat away to Rosario Central last time out. They picked up two red cards during that match, though, and as a result Miguel Angel Torren and German Basualdo will both be missing here. Goalkeeper Adrian Gabbarini might also miss out – he had to be subbed against Central.
Olimpo got a 2-1 win over San Lorenzo two weeks ago; Jacobo Mansilla sat that match out with a suspension, but will return here. Walter Acuña returned from injury against San Lorenzo – and scored one of the goals – but goalkeeper Nereo Champagne remains a doubt.
Argentinos
Suspended: Miguel Angel Torren, German Basualdo (red cards)
Doubtful: Maximiliano Freitas (right hamstring); Adrian Gabbarini (left calf)
Injured/unavailable: Ezequiel Ham (right shin); Lucas Cano (nose)
Olimpo
Suspended: Axel Rodriguez (red card in reserve match)
Doubtful: Adrian Martinez (right thigh); Nereo Champagne (groin)
Injured/unavailable: Juan Sills (right shin)
MATCH PREVIEW
Argentinos were completely played off the pitch in their last match, but there was no shame in that result in itself – very few teams are capable of visiting Rosario Central and coming away unscathed at present. Where manager Nestor Gorosito will have been disappointed was in his side’s lack of discipline, as their two red cards made things even harder than they needed to be.
Olimpo put in a fantastic performance two weeks ago, grabbing one goal on the stroke of half time and a second early in the second half to give San Lorenzo a mountain to climb which the visitors couldn’t scale. That win kept them in with a hope of claiming a Copa Sudamericana playoff spot, and was their third match in a row without defeat – they’ve lost just one of their last seven, and two of their last twelve.
Both sides have been out of sorts recently, although both have managed impressive victories at some point in the last few matches as well (Argentinos against Tigre, Olimpo two weeks go against San Lorenzo).
Both have got important players out, as well, and I think Argentinos will be affected more by that. Olimpo often grind something out away – they’ve only lost one of their last five away matches – and I think they can get a draw here.
HEAD TO HEAD
These teams have met twelve times in the top flight, and Argentinos have a narrow advantage – they’ve won four matches to Olimpo’s three, with five draws.
